dental surgeon- ravi de silva

After an initial interest in science at the University of Otago, competing a degree and post graduate diploma in physiology, I chose a career path in dentistry entering the Otago school of Dentistry in 1987
Since then I have never regretted this choice of career and used the opportunity to travel overseas. After seven years of mixture of private and NHS practice in Britain, and after extensive travelling it was time to return to New Zealand to pursue an offer to join an old friend, Graham Symes, in Wellington. After working as an Associate in 1998 for a year Symes de Silva was formed.
I enjoy all aspects of General Dentistry; especially the restoration of gaps involving implant supported crowns, as well as surgical restorative treatment with IV sedation. Currently, along with Graham we run the lower North Island Graduate Development Program for the "New Dentists" as part of their ongoing professional education as an NZDA initiative.
n the past I have also been active in the Wellington branch NZDA. However life for me cannot be only about my career, as three adorable young children are a handful for two "hands-on" parents, so the commitment to the committees had to go.
Outside of family and dentistry is the gym, fishing and all the good things that go with creating cocktails, enjoying wine and cooking for friends and family. Whenever possible any opportunity to travel is relished.
